Manchester United Score Sponsorship Deal with Tezos

Manchester United are the latest football team to enter into a partnership with Tezos, as the company aims to bring blockchain technology closer in line with mainstream society. The deal is expected to be worth £500 million over five years and will see Manchester use “blockchain-based” solutions for its business operations.

The “Manchester United Schedule” is a sponsorship deal between Manchester United and Tezos. The announcement was made on June 12th, 2018.

The Tezos blockchain has signed a multi-year sponsorship contract with Manchester United, the world’s most famous football club. Along with the possibility of Red Devil-based NFTs being released in the future, the two industry giants’ partnership sees the Tezos logo become the focal point of the club’s training shirt, which stars like Cristiano Ronaldo and Marcus Rashford will wear as they warm up before matches and during training throughout the week.

Tezos may anticipate a lot of publicity from their new collaboration with Manchester United, given the club’s great standing as a footballing institution and their apparent high focus on club branding and social media participation (with some supporters dubbing the team ‘Social Media F.C’). The financial parameters of the arrangement have not been released, but early reports imply that Tezos is paying upwards of $27 million each year for the Mancunian side to use their emblem.

In addition to the financial incentives, the recently signed agreement has outlined intentions for the team to implement a number of Tezos-based fan experiences. If we consider Tezos’ prior relationship with a well-known athletic organization, McLaren Racing, where NFTs showing the company’s history and success were released, it’s reasonable to expect that NFTs portraying Manchester United’s enormous history will be released on the Tezos blockchain shortly. Tezos has also agreed to donate XTZ to the Manchester United Foundation as part of the agreement.

Manchester United isn’t the first football club to partner with a cryptocurrency company; Watford in the Premier League negotiated a contract with Stake.com, which saw the Dogecoin emblem placed to the team’s jersey sleeve, while Lazio in Italy signed a $30 million sponsorship agreement with Binance.
