How to get into the Metaverse: The Top 5 Metaverse Platforms

We’re just in the early days of blockchain-powered games, with no clear answer to how things will turn out. Here is a list of 5 top platforms for creating NFTs and publishing them on the Metaverse.

The “top metaverse platforms” is a list of the top 5 Metaverse platforms. They are EOS, Ethereum, NFTs, OmiseGO, and TRON.

Who will emerge as the most dominant metaverse platform? Several major players are involved, so let’s see who is referring to themselves as a “metaverse” and how we may access these virtual worlds.

The race to the metaverse has begun in earnest. Indeed, a complicated interaction between conventional gaming, blockchain gaming, NFTs, virtual reality, augmented reality, and so much more has resulted in the emergence of many metaverse platforms. One thing is certain: the internet as we know it will never be the same again.

To be clear, there is no actual metaverse at this time. As I said in my last piece, there are a variety of virtual, open-world platforms available online right now, and many more are continually being built.

These internet platforms will eventually combine to produce a seamless metaverse experience. This experience will allow us to travel between worlds with our virtual avatars and roam freely in an immersive 3D environment, accomplishing all of the tasks that the internet now offers with the extra benefit of presence.

Consider how we now smoothly navigate the internet or use our mobile smart devices to do practically anything through applications — all of this took years to develop, and the metaverse will be no different.

Rome wasn’t created in a day, and neither is the metaverse. Let’s not forget that the term’metaverse’ has only lately become a global curiosity and focus point, due in large part to Facebook’s seismic leap to Meta.

Following Zuckerberg’s statement in November, the metaverse immediately rose from the shadows to become the go-to destination for IT businesses – and our digital future.

Immersive virtual worlds are clearly going to play a significant part in our lives. According to a survey by Emergen Research, the worldwide metaverse industry is expected to reach $829 billion by 2028.

We’re now seeing a fascinating struggle between some of the world’s top IT businesses and developers – so let’s take a deeper look at who they are…

Decentraland, which was launched in February 2020, has a strong claim to fame as the first-ever virtual world controlled by its people. This was a ground-breaking concept at the time, made feasible by the emergence of blockchain technology.

In Decentraland, there are 90,000 pieces of property split into Estates, Districts, and Plazas. Non-fungible tokens (NFTs) on the Ethereum blockchain and its Polygon sidechain are used to entirely hold these territories. An experience may be developed on each piece of land, and they are referred to as ‘Scenes.’

You may use a basic ‘Builder’ — a drag-and-drop editor – to create your Scene, or you can use a more advanced coding tool to offer you more creative flexibility.

On the Opensea marketplace, the typical parcel of land costs roughly 2-3 ETH ($6-9,000 USD) at the time of writing. If you think that’s a lot, just think of how much those plots will be worth if Decentraland grows into a bustling digital city with millions of daily visitors. They haven’t quite made it yet, but they have accomplished some incredible accomplishments.

Decentraland, for example, became a DAO (Decentralised Autonomous Organisation) in May 2021, and holders of the local currency, the MANA token, may vote on some proposed project improvements. Sotheby’s, the world-famous auction company, launched a virtual gallery in Decentraland in June 2021.

Returning to the MANA token, it may be used to purchase land parcels or Estates, as well as wearables for your avatar and one-of-a-kind names. You may also purchase an NFT from an art gallery or a virtual event ticket, as well as play in a casino.

You may visit Decentraland as a guest straight immediately through the internet and travel about the countryside at your leisure. You may explore the works of individuals who have previously purchased plots of land and constructed ‘Scenes,’ including Samsung, in guest mode.

To obtain the full Decentraland experience, you’ll need a MetaMask crypto wallet, then join up for an exchange like Coinbase and purchase Ethereum (Eth) and MANA.

Additionally, VR devices like as the Oculus Quest 2 (owned by Meta) will undoubtedly enhance your experience in Decentraland and other future metaverse worlds, as we shall detail.

There is much hype surrounding THE CASE OF THE SANDBOX metaverse and for good reason. Firstly, this started as a 2D mobile game in 2012, created by Pixowl, and attracted over 40 million users. Then, they decided to invest in a 3D metaverse, and last year, they raised a staggering $93 million in a funding round led by SoftBank – one of the biggest investment companies in the world and the 6th largest publicly traded company in Japan.

Now, under the new ownership of Animoca Brands, they’re working on a 3D virtual world experience that will be released soon.

There are 166,000 plots of land in THE CASE OF THE SANDBOX and the goal is to build gaming experiences within your Estate, which you can then monetize in a pay-to-play system. You can also monetize your land by renting it out and the land is exclusively yours to own, thanks to NFT smart contracts.

Much like DECENTRALAND, land and digital assets are bought as NFTs on the Ethereum blockchain or the Polygon sidechain, using the native SAND token. Hence, entry into THE CASE OF THE SANDBOX requires you to get a crypto wallet, then some ETH and SAND in your wallet. The rewards are ownership over your land and assets, which you, as an owner, are free to trade, sell, rent and gift to others.

Currently, in THE CASE OF THE SANDBOX, there are some notable residents – none more so than Snoop Dog, who has built ‘The Snoopverse’ experience and has already started hosting private events within his Estate. Just days ago he released his latest music video ‘The House I Built’, all made in THE CASE OF THE SANDBOX, and it’s an absolute blast!

Indeed, THE CASE OF THE SANDBOX hasn’t officially opened its gates to the general public yet. They’re in the process of testing and giving limited access to selected residents at the time of writing, but the roadmap is clear: they plan to open THE CASE OF THE SANDBOX, create their own DAO, create real jobs for people in THE CASE OF THE SANDBOX, build a ‘Sand Vegas’ casino, bring THE CASE OF THE SANDBOX back to the mobile phone and finally to consoles like the XBox and the Playstation. Just to name a few!

Finally, the news this year that gaming giants Ubisoft are going to buy an Estate in THE CASE OF THE SANDBOX and create multiple blockchain games within its metaverse only adds fuel to the fire – this hype train is real!

Enter the mainstream gaming kings! This immersive game has literally taken the world by storm and it’s completely free to play. Roblox empowers you to be a gaming developer, much like THE CASE OF THE SANDBOX, and to attract players to your experience.

Your game may have its own economy on Roblox, where users can spend money to purchase objects that are necessary in the game. If creators earn enough ‘Robux,’ the game’s in-game currency, and follow the Roblox requirements, they may turn their Robux into real money and monetize their game.

Remember, the way this game differs from THE CASE OF THE SANDBOX and DECENTRALAND is fundamentally, the assets that you buy are not strictly yours to control. This game is not on the decentralized blockchain and thus, as a centralized game, Roblox owns the experiences you create (you will get a split share of earnings if your game performs very well) and the in-game assets. Nevertheless, this game has completely absorbed the mainstream gaming community around the world.

Roblox’s community rose from 32.6 million daily active users in 2020 to over 50 million in 2021, spanning 180 countries. At the time of writing, Roblox has over 55 million daily users and shows no signs of slowing down.

The fact is that Roblox onboarding is quite straightforward, and you may enter an experience in a matter of seconds, complete with your own original avatar. You only need to download the Roblox app and you’re set to go.

After a mind-blowing 2021, Roblox is riding a tsunami of momentum. The National Football League and Roblox (NYSE: RBLX) announced the release of ‘NFL Tycoon’ in February of this year to engage the next generation of NFL football fans in the Metaverse. The NFL will be the first recognized major sports organization to provide a long-term Roblox experience.

Roblox and Sony recently announced that music artist 24kGoldn will perform a virtual concert on the platform, joining an impressive list of virtual events already completed in Roblox, including ‘Gucci Garden,’ ‘Twenty One Pilots Concert Experience,’ ‘KSI Launch Party,’ the ‘Fashion Awards 2021,’ and ‘Nikeland.’

Make no mistake: Roblox is a strong candidate for the title of metaverse leader.

META PLATFORMS are a kind of meta-platform.

Last year, Facebook changed its name to Meta and revealed plans to build a metaverse platform based on its $2 billion purchase of the Oculus VR Quest devices in 2014. Meta has put a lot of effort into creating a VR environment that can be used for work, pleasure, and socializing.

According to its Q4 earnings call, Meta spent approximately $10 billion on the Metaverse in 2021. On the same call, Meta’s platform Horizon Worlds was cited as a “core to our metaverse vision” and the concept for Horizon Worlds is not dissimilar to Roblox and THE CASE OF THE SANDBOX – namely, an immersive 3D world of user-generated experiences.

Meta has so far released Horizon Worlds for content development and its Presence Platform for normalized immersive experience design.

We’ll see the results of that $10 billion metaverse investment this year, which might shake things up a little in this race to the top.

The Microsoft metaverse is coming, and as you would expect, they have great ambitions for it. To begin, Mesh for Microsoft Teams will be released in early 2022, revolutionizing the way we conduct virtual meetings.

“Through mixed reality apps, Microsoft Mesh allows presence and shared experiences from anywhere – on any device.”

As a result, we might anticipate immersive 3D settings and workplaces where we can cooperate and communicate with our virtual avatars from Mesh. We’ll soon be able to access these collaborative, immersive areas via virtual reality (VR), augmented reality (AR) glasses, our laptop, or even our mobile device.

You get the impression that Mesh is only the tip of Microsoft’s iceberg. Indeed, they’ve been making huge moves in the gaming business, most recently purchasing Activision Blizzard for a staggering $68.7 billion. That’s the studio behind world-famous games like ‘World of Warcraft’ and ‘Call of Duty.’

As a result, with Activision Blizzard on board, they will be able to tap into one of the world’s largest businesses, and we may see a full-scale foray into the metaverse.

After all, games are the closest thing we have to the metaverse right now, since they enable us to immerse ourselves in virtual worlds that seem genuine and where we can easily communicate with millions of people.

WOW and Call of Duty, for example, link people via immersive environments and riveting gameplay, and if Microsoft can combine those elements with a solid, secure metaverse, including a functional economy, we may be seeing the birth of something extraordinary in the metaverse sector.

Select your metaverse.

Cryptovoxels, Somnium Space, and Bloktopia are just a few of the other metaverse platforms worth mentioning. All provide distinct experiences and have different needs.

Whether you believe in the decentralized blockchain metaverse or like things to be more straightforward and centralized, there is a platform out there for you.

Meanwhile, in these early days of the metaverse, have fun exploring!
