Epic has revealed its first blockchain-based game, after a public declaration of support for Web3 gaming. Gala Games’ wild west free-for-all, GRIT, will premiere on the platform as a consequence.

When Steam ‘banned’ blockchain-based games from its video game distribution service, Epic Games, the company’s main competitor, welcomed them with open arms. Gala Games is preparing to release GRIT, a Western-themed battle royale game, on the Epic Store as a result of this support.

Players in GRIT will fight to the death in the dusty badlands of the lawless wild west, using any weapons and equipment they can find to take down their tenacious opponents. Meanwhile, they’ll be rocking the American frontier in full bronco style thanks to a slew of NFT perks.

The first 10k avatar NFTs will be unveiled during this year’s Galaverse event, which is now taking place on the sunny island of Malta. Owners will receive access to a world of customizability and unique material that is only available to them.

Gala Games has revealed that GRIT will be released in its entirety later this year, as well as hints to more games coming to Epic in the near future, the most probable of which being the newly announced Battlestar Galactica MMO.

This is a big step forward for Gala, since it opens up Epic’s large 194 million userbase to the possibility of Web3 gaming, perhaps signaling a turning point for the industry.
