Apple’s new marketing campaign has ignited rumours that the company is developing a web-based wallet to support their upcoming decentralized Apple Arcade games.
Apple’s marketing campaign has ignited rumours of a web3 platform. The company is said to be planning to launch its own blockchain for developers.
Rumours about Apple’s entry into Web3 are circulating as the tech giant prepares to conduct its annual Worldwide Developer Conference. Despite the fact that Apple hasn’t stated any explicit blockchain plans, observant community members have seen signs of an NFT essence in the advertising efforts for new Apple goods.
The virtual conference will begin on June 6th and will go through June 10th. It will be open to the public and will include a number of notable tech experts and supporters, as well as demonstrations of new gadgets and software models like as the iPadOS 15, MacOS Monterey, watchOS 8, and iOS 15.
Members of the MacRumours forum page noticed that when clicking on the Memoji characters, an augmented reality mode with three claimable trading card characters is revealed, sparking speculation about the tech behemoth joining the new market.
Despite the fact that such Memoji characters are expected to be positioned as Web2 features, which aligns with Apple’s cultural affinity for memes and mascot marketing, the community can’t ignore the fact that they resemble the avatars seen in RTFKT Studios’ CloneX project, as well as the animated cards from VeeFriends Season 2.
While it is understood that Web3 features will not be present at this year’s conference, it is speculated that such resemblances may represent the early phases of Apple’s blockchain shift.
To add to the speculation, Apple’s transition into the new era of technology, or more specifically, the metaverse, will be smoother than most, as the company has already experimented with developing a mixed reality headset with VR and AR functions, and CEO Tim Cook stated during Apple’s Q1 earnings call that the company will invest appropriately in the emerging Web3 sector.
